the death of the doctors

I always wanted to make a perfect beginning for this blog.......thats why I kept on thinking and mostly delaying the start.

but now this topic is just too much important to just not post anything about it

Im talking of course of the recent parliament decision to make mbbs now 6.5 years from the previous 5.5 years
the bloody bald headed blood sucking moths have no sense....NO SENSE at all in their head
in fact making a medical pun....their cranial cavity is just that..... a cavity!

as a friend of mine remarked
it takes around an year or two extra just to get into a medical college
now you add 6.5 to it for an mbbs degree which is the lowest rung of our society
and now Im sure that by the time we clear our mbbs they'll make the PG have an extra year too
add 4 for that(now getting into a better rung)
and 4 more for specialisation(something with which at least a doc can walk with his head straight)
assuming that there is at least a drop in between of all the degrees(yes! if you havent noticed getting into a medical college is extremely hard)

and assuming a person is a normal 18 year old when he passes 12th grade
by the time he's done finishing his medical studies in India he will be....
18+18.5(2+6.5+1+4+1+4)=36.5
meaning basically he'll be 37 by that time
up to his neck with loans
and quite out of his prime in another 3-4 years

thus the average fresh doctor by the time I pass out will be 37 , frustrated with life, single, and will expire in another 3 or 4 years

assuming that the indian med students will go along with what the govt says
it will come back to haunt them greatly

imagine the situation 20 years from now

because of the little amount of students who take biology at their 10th grade
because of the very little amount of biology students who get to go to medical college
because of the meagre amount of doctors passing out every year
because of the even more meagre amount of doctors who get to do PG
because of the microscopic amount who get to specialise
because the doctors who do, will have a loan worth 100 times their weight in gold
because the doctors who pass out will have lost their spark
because the doctors who pass out will be too old to handle much stress

there will be less than a single doctor per 2-3 village
9-10 per hospital
20-30 per city
about 200 per state
the doctors will never be able to take up such a workload even if they were 25 less alone 37
medical costs for the normal person would shoot up
it will take a day's wait to just get the doctor to examine you for 3 mins
most of the medical cases which would have been prevented will flourish
and almost no one will be able to handle an emergency outbreak

OF COURSE this is assuming the current batch of doctors would stay in India
what with now about 70% of seats reserved for the ST/SC/OBC(yeah one more crap decision of the bloody govt)
making it cutthroat competition for the general category
most of the doctors will be forced to go abroad to pursue higher studies
and do you think that they'll come back to such a hellhole from there?

to the politician crap -
you who call it brain drain
you who say that its because we are selfish
you who think you are so high and mighty that you can decide our fates
if you ever had a brain and if you could ever use it
there would be no such brain drain!

but it wont be long before it does become reality>

  1. Nice post, and good topic.
But I'd like to know, before the government's decision to change the term, how many years did a budding student require to be a doctor?

What's the trend of no. of students opting for biology? is it declining?

  2. @ Alok

before the fallout it took around 11 years. now it'll be close to 20.

and about the trend of students opting biology......do you think it would increase after this? would you want your younger sibling to try and take up such a painfully long task for such a shitty job?

  3. I have no idea, man.
That's the reason I asked the questions.

I meant, what was the reason for the sudden increase in years?
Is there really a decline in interest in this area?

About the last question, if medicine is what my brother enjoys working for, I will definitely want him to work towards it, regardless of the amount of years it will take him. All I want from him is to succeed in what he enjoys.

  4. Funny they talk of brain drain, when all the brain has darined out of their cranial cavity to do leave it just that - a cavity.

So dude what are your reasons to opt for medicine?

(Actually I weanted to be a vet and got exactly same marks in PCM and PCB, but greater sensse prevailed in the end and I became the typical IT dunce)

  23. In 12, my class had 49 students and exactly one-seventh of them had taken up bio (I was one) but none took a chance at medical. Sadly.

Hats off to you for your courage and patience! Respect respect!
